General Election Information
Election Day: Tuesday, November 5, 2024
Our 40th has put together a quick voting guide to help demystify the process. There are many ways to register and vote in Chicago, but to be eligible to vote you must:
-
be a U.S. citizen, and
-
be born on or before November 5, 2006, and
-
live in your precinct at least 30 days before the election, and
-
not claim the right to vote elsewhere, and
-
not be in prison/jail serving time for a conviction
(Note: You can vote if you have a record or are on parole/probation as long as you meet all other eligibility requirements)

Registration
You must be registered to vote. Click below to look up your voter information.
Filling out the form will allow you to check your registration, locate your Election Day precinct, view your sample ballot, and check the status of your Vote by Mail request.
After October 20th, you can either register at the Secretary of State's office when getting an new ID or register in-person the same day you vote.
You will need two forms of ID, one with a current address, to register to vote in-person. Click below for more information on IDs needed to vote.
Vote by Mail
To vote by mail, you must already be registered to vote. Click below to request your mail-in ballot. Mail-in ballots must be requested by 5pm, Thursday, October 31st.
Ballots must be mailed, turned in to a secure drop box, or delivered in person to the Election Board at 69 W. Washington, Sixth Floor, by Election Day: November 5th.

Early Voting
To Early voting begins in all 50 Wards on Monday, October 21st.
Chicago voters can visit any early voting site, no matter where in the city they live. Same day registration is available at all Early Voting sites.
The 40th Ward Early Voting site is at Budlong Woods Library, 5630 N. Lincoln Ave. and will have Spanish and Hindi/Urdu Bilingual Voting Officials present.
Ward Early Voting Hours:
Weekdays: 9am - 6pm
Saturday: 9am - 5pm
Sunday: 10am - 4pm
Election Day (Nov. 5): 6am - 7pm
All Early Voting locations are ADA compliant and fully accessible to voters with disabilities.
Early Voting is also available at the Supersite (191 N. Clark) and CBOE Office (69 W. Washington, Sixth Floor). The Supersite will have Spanish, Chinese (Mandarin/Cantonese), and Hindi/Gujarati/Urdu Bilingual Voting Officials present. Click below for more information on Early Voting.
Election Day Voting
On Election Day, Tuesday, November 5th, voters can either vote at their precinct polling place or any of the 51 early voting centers. Same day registration is available at all polling places on Election Day.
Precinct Polling Place: Tuesday, Nov. 5, 6am - 7pm
Voters can only use their assigned precinct polling place. If you try to use a different polling place, you will be asked to vote a Provisional ballot. Click below to find your polling place
50 Ward Early Voting Centers and Supersite: Tuesday, Nov. 5, 6am - 7pm
Any Chicago voter can vote at any voting center on Election Day, no matter where they live in the city.
How to Vote
On Election Day, voters will be able to choose to either cast their vote using a paper ballot or using a touchscreen voting machine. Paper ballots are only available at precinct polling places. Touchscreen voting machines will be available at all Early Voting and precinct polling places.
Touchscreen machine voters may choose between 12 languages: English, Spanish, Chinese, Hindi, Polish, Korean, Tagalog, Gujarati, Urdu, Arabic, Ukrainian, and Russian. Touchscreen voting machines also have an audio mode for voters with visual disabilities. Touchscreen voting machines are available for anyone to use, but voters with disabilities will have first priority.
