Why Are You Running?

I’m running because I am certain that I am the best candidate to represent District 2 on Chicago’s elected school board. We need a leader who is a person with disabilities, has a child with disabilities and who has a record of fighting for our kids. I have the organizing and advocacy experience to bring a progressive, equity-centered lens to my decision making; I am the only candidate in District 2 with children currently enrolled in a CPS school; I have served on an LSC for almost eight years; and I belong to a community that is representative of the vast majority of District 2 CPS schools. Furthermore, I possess a keen understanding of how government functions, how to navigate institutional barriers and how to most effectively lobby state and federal funding sources. My professional experience in government and nonprofit sectors means I understand how the systems work and where to cut through bureaucracy to create lasting change.
